Hal Leonard Essential Elements 2000 Band Book One

Take your band program to the next level!

The Hal Leonard Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 Plus DVD will provide you with the kind of knowledge you need to get started right. That's why so many music instructors and band directors recommend this technique book. Getting off to a good start when learning a musical instrument is just a whole lot easier with a method book as good as this one, and Hal Leonard publishes some of the best and most popular method books available.

The Essential Elements series of books have the same great content as they've always contained, and the included discs are packed with helpful exercises. Hal Leonard has conveniently multi-formatted the included DVD to include computer software that allows a student both to practice and to assess their progress. The DVD includes a 15-minute start-up video specifically for trumpet students, as well as all of the book's audio exercises. In addition, it is also a DVD-ROM that includes tempo adjustment software so that you can slow down the examples in order to analyze them and play along at a speed you can handle. Also included are music utilities like SmartMusic® Software to make practice easier and more fun; Finale® NotePad® Software to give students the ability to write out pieces on their computers; another feature that permits performing duets and trios; and a music listening library packed with helpful and inspiring example pieces.

Essential Elements 2000 Plus DVD was written by real music educators: Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, John Higgins, Dr. Charles Menghini, Paul Lavender, Tom Rhodes, and Don Bierschenk. The study method combines the very best aspects of the already successful Hal Leonard Essential Elements band method with incredible new features to motivate every student player as never before.

Enhanced starting system

Essential Elements Book 1 uses unmeasured long tones to help students establish good tone production from the very beginning and uses quarter notes to teach proper pulse and rhythm. By exercise 14 students will be playing well-known melodies and enjoying the excitement of playing in the band.

Optimum reinforced learning

New material is carefully paced, sequential, and immediately reinforced to help make it memorable. New notes are approached in the easiest ways, then gradually played with wider skips and different rhythms. Each rhythm is introduced as a Rhythm Rap, then repeated on simple pitches, and finally placed in an appropriate melodic setting.

Theory, history, cross-curriculum, creativity

The Hal Leonard Essential Elements method book correlates music with the concepts the student is currently learning. This is by far the most efficient way to meet the National Standards, integrate other subjects into the music curriculum, and still teach the essentials of music performance.

Daily warm-ups and Rubank® Studies

Included warm-up exercises and Rubank® studies establish good trumpet practice habits, tone and technique. A full two 2 sets of Daily Warm-Ups are included in each book of Essential Elements 2000 Plus DVD. The Rubank Scale and Arpeggio Studies cover 4 major keys in Book 1, and 5 major and 3 minor keys in Book 2, all adapted from Rubank's best-of-the-best to expand your students' technical skills.

Essential Elements rhythm studies

The additional Rhythm Studies pages include progressive measures of rhythms, which you can use to enhance rhythmic development at any stage. With a quarter note pulse starting in the first lesson, the motivating Rhythm Raps, and plenty of reinforcement, Essential Elements 2000 students learn from new rhythms quickly and easily!

12 band arrangements and planned concerts

Research shows that students are more likely to succeed (and stay in band) if they perform a concert for parents within the first 8 weeks. That's why Hal Leonard Essential Elements contains an impressive early concert in Book 1 featuring 6 full band arrangements that can be performed after learning just 7 notes! The concert is the first of the Performance Spotlight features, which include 12 full-band arrangements and 2 solos with piano accompaniment.
